Auckland (2004)
The third conference, held in Auckland, New Zealand, on September 15-17, 2004, brought in the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand to join the three founding partners and opened up the agenda to include indigenous mental health. In addition to exploring developments in the established topics, this memorable meeting had presentations on mental health promotion and disorder prevention from a Maori perspective interwoven with the other material, as well as two presentations on indigenous mental health in a South African context. Senior government officials from New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom attended and participated in a policy forum the night before the opening ceremony. Those present were also fortunate enough to hear a splendid speech by George Albee, highly esteemed as an early and eminent leader in the field of promotion and prevention.
