London (2002)

Following the success of the initial conference, the second in the series was held at the Commonwealth Conference and Events Centre in London on 11-13 September 2002. The Clifford Beers Foundation hosted the event, working with the World Federation for Mental Health and The Carter Center, and with the co-sponsorship of the World Health Organization. Ms. Jacqui Smith, MP, then UK Minister of State for Health with responsibility for the Health Service in England, opened the conference, and the UK Government hosted a reception on the opening night at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Carrying forward the impetus of the first conference in Atlanta, this event focused on a public health approach to promotion and prevention, influencing government policy, developments in basic research, the implementation of projects, and training a workforce to work in the field.
